Workers in this building may have to go up (or down) one flight of stairs because the elevator only stops every third floor? The horror!
(I'm ambivalent about the climate control part, and actually somewhat aghast at the social engineering involved here, but dumbstruck that having to take one flight of stairs is complaint-worthy -- and contemptuous of the able-bodied people who are too lazy to do even that, and thus crowd the disabled-access elevator.)

I also found the Labor Department employee's parenthetical note amusing. If we have reached the point where needing an umbrella to keep the sun out of your cube is the "the type of bad work conditions" government employees need to look into, I would say we have basically achieved safe working conditions for all and it is time to disband a huge bureaucracy.
Posted by: Kubi at March 6, 2008 09:37 PMYeah, really, I find some of the complaining in this piece ridiculous. I mean, it's San Francisco! Why do you need air conditioning at all? Unless the building is really horribly designed, you shouldn't.
And the stairs thing -- I already mentally rage at anyone who uses the elevator in my building to go up or down one flight, so I am all in favor of this measure.
