The Best Super Bowl Ads Were Among the Last

And the best one of all, I didn't even know existed until today (when did it air?).

5. The Dalmatian trains the Clydesdale. I make no apologies about enjoying this sap.

4. Charles Barkley wears out his welcome. A great twist on a running ad theme.

3. Giant carrier pigeons.

2. Will Farrell as an old-time basketball player pitchman

1. Underdog vs. Stewie

(I was also partial to the ad with Bill Frist and James Carville, shameless whores though they may be. Maybe this is knee-jerk brand loyalty but weren't both of those ads light years ahead of either the "Night at the Roxbury" tribute or the "let's keep hitting Justin Timberlake in the crotch"?)

What Other People Say

5. There was nothing remotely unexpected about this. The Rocky theme?

4. Charles Barkley wore out his welcome long, long ago.

3. It wasn't bad; really could've used another 15 seconds.

2. I am not sure I wanna see that movie. Or, rather, I am not sure why I would enjoy that more than the easy substitutes.

1. OK, this was pretty good even if I wasn't as happy about the ending.

Frist & Carville was also sappy and entirely paint by numbers.

The "Night at the Roxbury" thing was only slightly funny, mostly due to the split second of Chris Kattan. The Justin Timberlake spot had one decent moment, Justin's "Hi, how are you" (or whatever) just before being hit by the door. Also him being hit by the door was good because, well, he was hit by a door.

I agree with 1, 4 and 5. 3 was decent, but a little scary. The big deal with 1 was, of course, the finish--the loser finally wins.

The two baby eTrade commercials were well received, but that may be do to my personal finance interest and the fact we're expecting...

Also him being hit by the door

It wasn't a door -- it was a flat-screen TV. Apparently the gag was the girl's dad traded in all the "Pepsi points" (or whatever they are called) for a TV instead of Timberlake MP3s.

Totally agree with you on #1. It aired before the other Coke ad (Frist/Carville), either right at the end of the 3rd or start of the 4th.
