Simpsons: Pool 53

No new results; I want more than two comments on Pool 49. If for some reason your comment won't "take" there, you can leave a Pool 49 comment here. I was also waiting for Pool 52 to get a comment, though come to think of it that's stupid: "Someone comments on a pool" implies "Someone read this blog who might have also commented on this pool if it were up." Meh.

Pool 49, Pool 50, Pool 51, and Pool 52 are all still open. Five pools open at once: Madness!

NOTE TO SELF: =INDIRECT("A"&(FLOOR(RAND()*(335-COUNT(C2:C336)),1)+COUNT(C2:C336)+1))

Numbers...
270: CABF19 (SI-1219 / S13E01) Treehouse of Horror XII
"Hex in the City" / "House of Whacks" / "Wiz Kids"
198: 5F14 (SI-914 / S09E20) The Trouble With Trillions
When Homer's unfastidious tax return accidentally falls into the severe audit bin at the IRS, he is promptly nabbed by the government. Forced to go undercover for them, Homer finds himself on a mission to retrieve a trillion dollar bill stolen by Mr. Burns. Guest voice Paul Winfield as Lucious Sweet.
182: 5F02 (SI-902 / S09E04) Treehouse of Horror VIII
In "The Homega Man," Homer battles killer mutants after Springfield is destroyed in a nuclear blast. Next, a matter transportation device melds Bart with a housefly in "Fly Vs. Fly." Finally, Marge is accused of witchcraft during colonial times in "Easy-Bake Coven."
328: FABF10 (SI-1510 / S15E15) Co-Dependent's Day
Marge looks for an activity for Homer that doesn't involve beer and naively takes him to an Oktoberfest celebration. Then when Homer gets drunk, Marge winds up taking the fall for his DUI and is sent to rehab.
146: 3F16 (SI-716 / S07E18) The Day the Violence Died
With the help of Lionel Hutz, Bart unwittingly bankrupts the studio that produces Itchy & Scratchy when he and Hutz successfully prove the idea for Itchy was stolen some 70-80 years ago. Guest starring Alex Rocco, Jack Sheldon, Suzanne Somers and Kirk Douglas (as Chester J. Lampwick, the original Itchy creator).
29: 7F14 (SI-214 / S02E16) Bart's Dog Gets an F
After chewing up Homer's new $125 sneakers and the Bouvier family quilt, Santa's Little Helper is enrolled in an obedience school.

My first impressions:
XII is above average even by Treehouse standards.

I'm sure I've seen "The Trouble With Trillions" but it's not a very sticky memory.

VIII taps the Treehouses; that particular one is below average.

"Co-Dependents" is a darkhorse in the race to the bottom. #6 with a bullet.

That taps Season 7; would you believe I've never seen "The Day the Violence Died" either?

Schmaltz and all, I think Santa's Little Helper tops this bracket by default. I also have a reasonable intuition, even sight-unseen, of the logical slot for "Violence Died" in this very so-so bracket.

Preliminary rankings:
1. Bart's Dog Gets an F
2. Treehouse of Horror XII
NR. The Day the Violence Died
4. The Trouble With Trillions
5. Treehouse of Horror VIII
1000. Co-Dependent's Day

What Other People Say

1. The Trouble With Trillions
2. Bart's Dog Gets an F
3. Treehouse of Horror XII
4. The Day the Violence Died
5. Treehouse of Horror VIII
1000. Co-Dependent's Day

The Trouble with Trillions is a Top Five all-time episode.

How Mr. Burns forebearers caused the extinction of the Fenway Flounder during the Boston Tea Party.

Mr. Burns: There's a big one, and it has freedom written all over it!
Smithers: Sir, that's Cuba.
Mr. Burns: Cuba, eh? Take her down, Smithers!
Smithers: Uh, you're flying the plane, sir...
Mr. Burns: Excellent.

The ad for Duff next to Che Guevara that says "Ħel Duffo o muerte!"

Burns' line in Cuba about "the new Packard we've been hearing so much about."

Trillions is a top five all-time episode, just for the number of jokes.

I think you've underestimated this bracket. I'd say there are promotion opportunities at all levels, with the exception of the bottom spot. Perhaps we could relegate it to a crappier animated show. What was the UPN one about the family of video game characters?

1. Trillions - not sure about Top 5, though I'll let the guys from Collier's sort that out.
2. Violence - though mostly for trivia fodder
3. F
4. Treehouse XII
5. Treehouse VIII
6. Co-Dependent

Have to go with Mark's lineup...

1. The Trouble With Trillions - Castro's "You talking about Cuba?" reaction was classic.
2. Bart's Dog Gets an F - "We never had a problem with a family member we can give away before" was classic.
3. The Day the Violence Died - The soft handling of "You wanna start on trying to get Apu out of jail?" was classic.
4. Treehouse of Horror VIII - Easy Bake Coven was so-so but Fly vs Fly was classic, especially Homer's uses for the transporter.
5. Treehouse of Horror XII - Pierce trying to off himself was... good.
6. Co-Dependent's Day - Not classic.

2 and 3 are really close but, against character, I really like the ending for the former... while the ending for the latter was... odd. Just odd. Not a bad odd... but very odd.

Looks like I need to catch up again...

1. Violence -- Not as good as Marge vs. I&S, but still a solid episode.
2. Trillions -- While I agree that almost all of the moments involving Cuba are gold, there's a lot of pretty mediocre stuff before that.
3. Bart's Dog -- I just saw this one the other day, and was highly confused, because I could have sworn it was much later.
4. Treehouse 8
5. Treehouse 12 -- I don't know what you see in this one. I would rank both of the latter two segments as pretty bad.
6. Co-Dependent's Day -- though this does have one of the best sight gags when Homer notice the beer flowing upwards.
