Simpsons: Pool 51 (with Pool 47 results)

Pool 47 results (original ranking in parentheses)
1. Homer and Apu (1)
2. Homer Badman (4)
3. Homer the Smithers (3)
4. Hurricane Neddy (6)
5. The Wandering Juvie (NR)
6. Today I am A Clown (NR)

How obvious is it that I'm ready for the prelims to end and next stage to begin? On the pool above, the only thing close was Badman vs. Smithers. Come to think of it I agree with Paul about the corrections et al.

Pool 48, Pool 49, and Pool 50 are still open.

NOTE TO SELF: =INDIRECT("A"&(FLOOR(RAND()*(335-COUNT(C2:C336)),1)+COUNT(C2:C336)+1))

Numbers...
195: 4F24 (SI-824 / S09E17) Lisa, the Simpson
Thanks to the unfounded predictions of Grampa Simpson, Lisa is convinced that she's genetically predisposed to lose her intelligence. Meanwhile, Apu discovers Jasper frozen in his freezer, and turns the Kwik-E-Mart into a tourist's trap.
272: CABF20 (SI-1220 / S13E03) Homer the Moe
After Moe heads for a bartending school to brush up his business skills, Homer is charged with keeping tabs on Springfield's premiere watering hole. But when Moe decides to make his tavern over into something more hip and modern, a disgruntled Homer opens his own bar in the Simpson family garage. Guest stars R.E.M.
98: 1F15 (SI-515 / S05E17) Bart Gets an Elephant
When 'KBBL is going to give me something stupid', Bart forgoes the $10,000 cash price for an elephant. Problem is, the elephant is causing some major problems.
138: 3F31 (SI-731 / S07E10) The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular
Troy McClure hosts an half- hour show looking back at The Simpsons' past eight year history.
263: CABF09 (SI-1209 / S12E15) Hungry, Hungry Homer
After Homer discovers that the Springfield Isotopes are being moved to Albuquerque, he stages a hunger strike outside the stadium.
119: 2F13 (SI-613 / S06E16) Bart vs. Australia
The government of Australia isn't impressed with Bart's prank phone call and demand that he apologies in person.

My first impressions:
Sleeper alert. "Lisa, the Simpson" has a great plot and a great subplot, but I haven't seen it in years and would have had trouble remembering that it existed.

No, we haven't already had "Homer the Moe," just discussed it a lot relative to other Moe episodes. Average, I guess? A bit below?

...and Season 5 is tapped out. When "Elephant" first aired, we were in Minnesota for the Frozen Four. No idea why the room I was in wasn't watching but a bandmate burst in to tell us about the "best f'ing line ever":
"D'oh!"
"A deer!"
"A female deer!"

So, "clip show" and bury it accordingly? Or give it props for doing the clip show schtick in style? Either way, this is inferior to the three commented on above.

Surprisingly I've never seen "Hungry Hungry Homer," but heard all about it. UPDATE: And the read-through is fantastic. There can be but one choice.

Very deep pool, but not so top-heavy. As I'm less impressed than you are by the most famous episodes in the pool, I really do have to go with the sleeper. Note that I'd be equally unsurprised to hear you argue that "Hungry, Hungry Homer" was the best of this lot, the worst, or anywhere in between.

Preliminary rankings:
1. Hungry, Hungry Homer
1.2. Lisa, the Simpson
2.3. Bart vs. Australia
3.4. Bart Gets an Elephant
4.5. Homer the Moe
5.6. The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular

NR. Hungry, Hungry Homer

What Other People Say

This is a pretty strong bracket for this late in the game. Promotions will abound, I think.

1. Hungry
2. Lisa
3. Australia
4. Moe
5. Elephant
6. Spectacular

1. Lisa -- I own an unsuccessful shrimp company. But you OWN it, right? Maybe it's me, but I still get a kick out of that stupid game the Simpson men play (wearing pots on their heads).

2. Hungry, Hungry Homer -- could have been first, but the beginning wasn't that great. The trombonist in the empty closet was a great sight gag.

3. Lisa vs. Australia -- probably one of the better Simpsons travelogues, given the backstory. Plus toilet humor that worked!

4. Elephant -- loses many points for cutting the funniest scene for syndie broadcasts -- when the elephant marches through the Republican and Democratic conventions.

5. Homer the Moe -- never cared much for this episode, and most Moe-centered episodes anyway. Plot was somewhat done before as well (Uncle Moe's and Flaming Moe's).

6. Spectacular -- blah.

Wow, this bracket is very deep. I would normally pull for the 138th Episode Spectacular around 3rd; it's really much better than an ordinary clip show. IMO.

1. Bart vs. Australia -- This is a mega-classic. It's got it all!
2. Hungry Hungry Homer -- Loses some points for being like the 47th time that they use the Natural gag.
3. Bart Gets an Elephant -- It's a little contrived, but still a classic.
4. Lisa the Simpson -- I'm not quite as enamored of this episode as others, it apperas. The subplot is really a one-shot gag which gets stretched out a little too long.
5. 138th Episode Spectacular -- The outtakes here are great material (especially the one from $pringfield), but now that those are available on DVD it somewhat dims the luster.
6. Homer the Moe -- Ooh, shamless celebrity appearance!

1. Bart vs. Australia - Yes, a travel episode that worked. Lisa had some great lines: "I know those words, but that sign makes no sense," and "I'm impressed you were able to write so legibly on your own butt."
2. Bart Gets an Elephant
3. Hungry, Hungry Homer - This one has not stuck in my memory very well. There were definately some funny bits ("Because you don't know what Cesar Chavez looks like") but we've got Stampy and
4. Lisa, the Simpson - "Baldness too." Grampa had the best parts.
5. The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular - I don't consider this a clip episode and thus don't hate it. Troy, once again, is hilarious.
6. Homer the Moe - Homer's robot was a good example of hilariously unnecessary humor.

It is now time to go land on the USS Walter Mondale.

My post was swallowed, somehow. Quickly:

1. Bart vs. Australia - A travel ep that worked! Lisa had the best lines: "I know those words, but that sign makes no sense" (and others.)
3. Bart Gets an Elephant - "If we had the ten thousand dollars we'd be millionaires!"
2. Hungry Hungry Homer - Not gonna beat Stampy. Not sure what to make of it inspiring a real sports team's name ala Mighty Ducks (but NewsCorp doesn't own the Isotopes, right?)
4. Lisa the Simpson - Grampa had the best parts.
5. 138th Episode Spectacular - I don't consider this a clip episode so I don't hate it. Troy, once again, is hilarious.
6. Homer the Moe - Homer's robot is a good example of hilariously unnecessary humor.
