Family Guy: Best Media Gift Ever

Thanks to Julia I now have the first three seasons of The Family Guy on DVD. Had they not started up the new episodes again, this would have been the complete collection.

The new episodes are, of course, a good reason to get cable TV. On the other hand, I suppose one could wait until those came out on DVD as well.

Random shows that I've never seen in my life, some of which are or were on cable. Mixed bag as to whether I have any desire ever to see them - generally no, except that I feel as though I'm missing out on a whole lot of pop culture:

The Sopranos
NYPD Blue
Sex and the City (maybe I caught ten minutes once with my roommate Scott watching)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (same "ten minutes" disclaimer)
Queer As Folk
Six Feet Under
The Bachelor
Dawson's Creek
Felicity
Melrose Place
update: Chappelle's Show blows all of the above out of the water - seriously, never seen it!

I watched an entire episode of Bernie Mac once, and also an entire episode of Monk. (Conceptually I like Monk, enough so that my complete ignorance of the show actually once left me very embarrassed in hindsight.)

What else is popular and on cable? What's the featured attraction on Showtime these days? Whatever it is, I've never seen it, not even that Chris Isaak show. (And I call myself a pop culture geek...)

As many of you know I play with DVDs for a living. If a TV show has come out on DVD at all, chances are I've had that show in my possession at work at some point this year. Sometimes I'll wish I'd see a given show at least... well, ever. But then the wish passes when I realize it's probably not that good, and that it's probably-not-that-goodness is part of why I never saw it in the first place.

Anyway, though: Family Guy. Best show ever (better than The Simpsons - I will not argue about this, since it's the sort of thing nobody will convince anyone else of either way); best girlfriend ever.

The best character on the show is of course Brian (the dog, for you newbies), though I can go with the flow if you're more a Stewie type (the baby). Actually I've developed an odd appreciation for Lois (the mom), voiced by a lady who was born in 1971. (Compare her age to the age of the women who've voiced Meg...)

What Other People Say

The new episodes? They haven't started yet.

And I'm assuming that you now have two boxed sets - one with Seasons 1 and 2, and another with 3.

They are, quite simply, one of the nicest gifts ever.
